The large training exercise within the DARWIN project simulated a passenger ferry disaster off the coast of Östergötland, with several hundreds injured. The medical command and control of the incident was recorded during the entire exercise and the project aims to analyze the video recordings of the specific milieu that is the command and control room.
With the aid of interaction analysis, the project will examine the times that persons have had conversations and interaction, but the communication has not worked out. Why and how have the persons misunderstood each other? The project will also investigate possible flawed decisions that stem from miscommunication, e.g. consequences of someone not confirming an order. There is also an interest in gestures and bodily interactions; how people confirm their interaction by turning toward each other, head postures and eye contact. The finding of general patterns in miscommunication could contribute to development and improvement of guidelines for communication in a command and control setting.
I have an interest in interaction analysis, and I wish to apply it to something valid, something that makes a difference and at the end help people
