Immediate wound closure and delivery of bioactive factors using a wound chamber.
The project aims at developing a comprehensive strategy for the treatment of wounds using novel technology; modulation of the wound microenvironment using a wound chamber device to eradicate contamination and infection, alleviate pain, reduce inflammation and promote healing.
In vitro and in vivo models are used to study the efficacy of the intervention. Techniques to assess outcome range from gene expression analysis, routine and immunohistochemical stainings, to objective outcome measures of wound healing and scar formation. The project is on route to initiate clinical trials.
This is a collaboration between KMC and the Department of Hand and Plastic Surgery at the University Hospital in Linköping, S2 Medical AB, Örebro University School of Medical Sciences, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, and the United States Army Institute for Surgical Research, San Antonio, TX.
