Placement of bleeding control kits in public spaces
In the work of spreading knowledge about bleeding control to the public, studies on where to place kits to stop bleedings are included, to be able to equip public spaces with the right kind of supplies for first aid interventions for life threatening bleeding. By creating models of milieus where Stop the Bleed-kits could be placed, one can investigate factors that affect how advantageous a placement is, and behaviours concerning seeking and handling of the kits. The project will create a VR (virtual reality) model of the Students’ building at Campus Valla, Linköping. The blueprint and furniture will reflect reality, and the model will include objects and signs that are relevant for emergency situations, such as emergency exists and signs indicating heart defibrillators. Modelling enables comparisons of behaviours in the model and in real life, which in itself is developing the method of using modelling in similar studies. With the aid of modelling, the project will investigate the following questions:
Where and how do study participants look for a bleeding control kit in an emergency situation?
Do participant seek bleeding control kits the same way in a VR-environment as in the real environment?
To answer the questions, data collection will take place in a VR-environment and the Students’ building, by observation of study participants. The study will be performed by Petter Norrblom, Master Programme in Cognitive Sciences; supervisor Erik Prytz.
