Center for Disaster Medicine and Traumatology commissioned as National Research Center for Traumatology by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare
The Center for Disaster Medicine and Traumatology (KMC) will from December 1st 2020 have the capacity as National Research Center for Traumatology, designated and funded by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare. The assignment entails providing expert advice, and monitoring and analyzing the subject field, and the research frontier.
“This assignment is a recognition of Center for Disaster Medicine and Traumatology as a leading national institution as regards research and training in traumatology. Even if the assignment is unique to KMC, our ambition is to cooperate closely with other traumatology researchers in Sweden, especially those at University of Gothenburg and at the Karolinska Institute”, says Andreas Wladis, professor in disaster medicine at KMC and Linköping university.
Multi-professional research based in both experimental and clinical traumatology is performed at the center, with several research projects ranging from experimental wound healing applications and prehospital care, to global surgery in conflict areas. The assignment opens further avenues for these and future projects to proceed and succeed.
“We can now focus on and develop the existing network of researchers and experts in traumatology emanating from Linköping and Östergötland. We envision a close collaboration with national and regional authorities, military and non-military organisations, researchers and experts in Sweden and abroad. With this base we will be able to gather information on needs and to provide an up to date picture of the evidence base that is developed by researchers and subject experts”, says Carl-Oscar Jonson, docent in experimental disaster medicine and research coordinator at KMC.
