KMC: part of Region Östergötland
What is KMC?
The Center for Disaster Medicine (KMC) brings together expert competence and training in prehospital care, crisis and disaster medical preparedness, crisis support, disaster medicine research, safety and the environment. Together with Linköping University we are a national knowledge centre in disaster medicine with a focus on traumatology, on assignment from the National Board of Health and Welfare.
KMC stewards several established national concepts, such as Emergo Train System (ETS), Prehospital Emergency Medical Command (PS) and Stop the Bleed. KMC is also home to the International Medical Programme (IMP), which works with long-term care and leads international projects. We are part of Region Östergötland.

My work spans epidemiological studies of trauma and prehospital care to research on critically ill patients, military medicine, and healthcare in disaster and conflict settings. A particular focus is health systems’ ability to identify, prioritise, and treat severely injured patients, and on how organisation, decision-making, and medical interventions affect patient outcomes. Through national and international collaborations, I study both everyday acute conditions and how care functions under extraordinary circumstances, with the aim of strengthening medical preparedness and improving survival and recovery after injury and illness.
